Why join the Music Education Council?

The Music Education Council is the umbrella organisation for the music education sector in the UK. MEC is a Council of all of its members. Its strength is in bringing our diverse sector together promoting better collaboration and achieving greater impact throughout the UK for all aspects of music education across the lifespan. It strives to be pro-active, reactive and representative

Through MEC you can keep abreast of and contribute to developments in music education; ensure your voice is heard; and actively participate in policy, decision-making and elections for trustees and Forum membership.

How well the Council works for you will be determined by how much you choose to engage with the Council.

More information about how MEC operates can be found here. Or in the form of a PowerPoint here.

Levels of membership are:

Individual membership – a member in your own right, any views put forward are your own and any promotion is of your own, individual work

Corporate membership – Levels One and Two (see below for differences) – an organisation or business that can nominate people to represent it at MEC gatherings. Any views put forward are assumed to be those of the organisation and it is the representative’s responsibility to feed information between the organisation and MEC – MEC will always assume that the representative is acting with the authority of the organisation.
